CrashOverride Used in 2016 Ukrainian Power Outages

Stuxnet, Havex, Blackenergy, and CrashOverride represent the first four known targetted attacks against industrial control systems. This talk will focus specifically on the tools dubbed CrashOverride used during the 2016 Ukrainian power outages. We will do a quick overview of electrical substation architecture, talk about the design of the tools utilized in the outage and how these tools can be discovered and neutralized on the network.

Dan Gunter, Cyber Security
Mr. Gunter is employed at Dragos, Inc., a cyber security company. He serves as a Senior Threat Hunter discovering, analyzing and neutralizing threats in ICS/SCADA networks. Previous to his role at Dragos, Mr. Gunter served in a variety of Information Security roles as a Cyber Warfare Officer in the United States Air Force. Mr. Gunter holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Baylor University and a Master of Science in Computer Science from the University of Louisville.
